MELBOURNE. Monday. J. H. Clottgh and Co.'s Report. Our wool sales to-day were largely attended ; the competition was very brisk, and prices ruled higher than last week. LONDON. Thursday. The Czar has formally announced to the British Government that he intends fulfilling the stipulations of the Berlin Treaty, and has directed the Imperial authorities accordingly, Turkey appointing delegates to arrange for the rectification of the Greek frontier. The Sultan of Turkey is sending an envoy to Cabul, to desire the Ameer to submit to England. A Berlin telegram states that Germany has decided to occupy the whole of the Samoan group. Brigadier-General Biddulph has been ap pointed to the command of the British troops.

TjHE.providential breaking up of the drought, and the consequent abundant supply 'of feed, has effected a marked improvement in the prospects of the pastoral interest. * From every quarter we are receiving the most1 satisfactory accounts, both of the quality and quantity of this season's clip, and our' contemporaries are' evidently doing the same. The Forbes Times says : — ' At one station in ' the Bogan district the sheep all round cut one pound weight each, more'than they did' last year, although they have only had the benefit of six months good grasn. INSOLVENCY. Wednesday. Before G. G. Brodie, Esq., Chief Commissioner. In the matter of William Marshall,' of Morangorell, innkeeper; second. meeting. Mr. Russell, of Young, appeared for a creditor, and examined insolvent. Mr. J. L. Waugh was also prpsent, as agent for the Offi cial Assisrnee. William Marshall, being duly sworn, said : I was lately an innkeeper, residing at Morango rell ; I attribute my insolvency to. loss of stock, in consequence of the recent dry weather, and the burning of my store, public house, and prr mises. In the Assembly, yesternight, the debate on the Financial Statement continued until midnight, and was further adjourned till Wednesday next ; Parkes and Eobertson made lengthy and telling speeches. Strong opposition to the increased expenditure is anticipated. Mr. James Wutson's attack on the Govern ment financial scheme is considered to be a most able and telling one. The Exhibition 'Fund amounts to six thousand pounds. Nearly all the emigrants per Pericles and La Hogue, numbering about nine hundred, have been hired out, at fair wages. Three men have been killed, and one wounded, at the Moonta mine, Adelaide. Best beef, 20s per lOOlbs.j sheep market well supplied, 10s for best quality ; sheep in wool, 12s ; shorn, 8s.
