THE ROYAL PARK. [Newspaper Article] — North Melbourne Advertiser — 16 October 1874

THE ROYAL PARK. Intham, above all suburbs, is in the possession of a really magnificent park which can claim the honour of possessing a zoological collection, both varied and interesting.' On Sundays the park is crowded with citizens, on pleasure bent, who conduct themselves in a orderly and decent <manner, while the information obtained by an inspection of the natural curiosities cannot fail to be a source of impruvement. The opening of the gardens on Sunday, is not attended with dsecration of any kind. Neither would the sanctity of the Sabbath be affected by. the running of trains or the ;opening of museums and.reading roonas.

Amusements. THE OPERA. [Newspaper Article] — North Melbourne Advertiser — 16 October 1874

. Aminusements. TIlE OPERA.' T*'he opera house continues to be nightly filled, and the popularity of La Fills Angot appears to be'well sustained. This opera has been one of the most successrul, in a po ouniary sease, of any placed upon the boards of the Prince of Wales Theatre since its open ing. And we are very glad that it is so, because the management are really deserving of far more public support than they have received. In producing operas, both Italian and English, they have spared no expense. Indeed the peoplooef Melbourne should feel proud that tl?o city'is able to maintain ani Italian Company at all, for it' must be acknowledged that outside of London there is no city in the . United Kingdom capable of man t4iing a regular opera house. Under thole elrcumstanoee'we ongratulate' Messrs. Lyater'and Cagli on the' well merit. ed success which has attended the" intro" duction of La Fillo de Madame Angot.
