Treatment to Protect Trees from Hares. The fruit expert, Mr. W. J. Allen, reports that the simplest and one of the most effective means of preventing hares barking the trees is to smear the tiunks with bullock's liver. Tbe liver should be cut into pieces, large enough to hold in the hand, and rubbed all over the trunk. One man can treat several huBdred trees in a day, but the process will need to be repeated about every six weeks ior two months. Another method is to mix blood with sufficiont slacked lima to thicken it, and smear the trunks. Bowral. Mr. H. L. Thirtle has resigned the hon. secretaryship of the Bowral School of Arts on account of his inten tion to leave Bowral shortly. The committee have placed on the records of the institution their appreciation of Mr. Thirlle's valuable services, and have voted him an honorarium of five guineas.
