TO CORRESPONDENTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Colonist — 28 January 1836

STO C ORRESPONDENTS. Ve are obliged to leave J. K. over till our next. The Report of the Newcastle Mechanics' Institute will be inserted , JIle should have been happy to have inserted J.'s verscs, had, they been a little more pointed. If they were meant as an expression of contempt for worldly gran deur and worldly distinctions, we do not think he has been peculiarly happy i:n his text: if they were intended as a satire on passing events, he should have written a more distinct hand, and used a somewhat sharper pen. When we give medicine, we always wish our patients to know that it is medicine we are giving them. We never say, as they sometimes say to children, " This is tea," when it is a mere decoction of Setnna. Horace, the Roman poet, was a dirty dog-not a whit better than some of our Norfolk island men-and would to a dead certainty have been hanged by the laws of En.land. It is therefore dangerous to touch some even qf his finest odes. Pollution lurks, like a snake in the grass,...
