YIELD OF BEET GREAT INCREASE EXPECTED [Newspaper Article] — Rosedale Courier — 4 March 1915

YIELD OF BEET GREAT INCREASE EXPECTED AD enormous increase in the yield of sugar beet in the Maffra district is expected this year, when, if anticipa tions are realised, a record should be established. Last year the Railway Department loaded 1216 tons of beet at Powerscourt station, and the estim ate for the present season is no less than 7000 toLs. This will represent about twelve truck loads per day from Powerscourt to Maftra. Realising that the present accommondation at FoKerscourt is not compatible with the expeditious handling of such a large yield, farmers in the district approached the Railway Commis sioners and asked that additional facilities should be provided. The Commissioners have now decided to extend the siding accommodation at Powerscourt so as 10 hold seven ad ditional trucks, and they have also given peimission to the residents to alter the approach road to the loading ramp. It is also intended to erect a weighbridge at the siding.

WHEN MOTHER EARTH MOVES [Newspaper Article] — Rosedale Courier — 4 March 1915

WHEN MOTHER EARTH MOVES List Saturday night, at about 10.15 o'clock, a severe earth tremor was fcit at Roscdale. A number of the houses and shops were sevetely shaken and some of the occupants very much startled. Although the tremor lasted several seconds and was very pt0. nounced, it would appear, judging by the absence of reports from other centres, that Rosedale and Catrajung were the only places in which the tremor was noticeable. A peculiar fact was that quite a number of persons were unawaie that anything unusual had occurred, SHARP SHOCK AT CARRAJUNG Our correspondent writesA shatp shock of earthquake was experienced here on Saturday night between 10 and n o'clock. The strike of the tremor seemed to be from east to west. Buildings seemed to sway under its influence and its sub sequent rumblings were plainly audible (resembling distant thunder) for a fair length of time after the shock had occured. This bslt of country em. bracing the southern hills is no dcubt of semi volcani...

REGISTRATION OF SHOPS [Newspaper Article] — Rosedale Courier — 4 March 1915

REGISTRATION OF SHOPS It is estimated that there are in Vio toria somewhere in the vicinity of 40,000 shops. Each one of thfse must now be registered in order that reliable statistics may be prepared ehowing the number, wages, sex and ages of our shop employes and so that that it may be known how many shops of each class there are, acd how many assistants in each kind of business. The shopkeeper is required to obtain a form from an Inspector of Factories, or from the officer in charge of any police etation, to fill it in and forward it with the proper fee. Clear directions are printed on each form. Envelopes are also supplied for con venience, but postage must be paid. This duty is imposed on the shop keeper in the same way as the duty to forward his Income Tax Soliedule and for the eame reasons, viz., that it would be impossible to write to each ahopkeeper reminding him,ov.ing to the fact that only a portion of them and their addresses are known, and because if it were possible the...

SICK HEADACHES Women Subject to Frequent Throbbing Bursting Heads [Newspaper Article] — Rosedale Courier — 4 March 1915

SICK HEADACHES Women Subjcct to Frequent Throb bing Bursting Iii-ads "I was recommended by a relative to try Dr Morse's Indian Root Pills,'' writes Mrs Maud Long, of 15 Albion street. Brunswick East, Melbourne, "being a great sufferer from Bilious ness. A*, times my bead was 60 bad that I could not hold it up, with aches constantly [robbing, and in my pil- ( grimage for health or a respite from these periodical Bilious Attacks, I took many medicines in vain. Dr Morse's Indian Boot Pills released me from my former attacks, they made me well quickly, and I can verify that they banish B.liousness after a few doses. I am never without thero in my home, and tlu-y prove our family medicine whenever necessary. You can use this testimony, a- I consider them a reliable medicine." There's many a cause. Men are not often troubled by headaches. When they are it is generally due to Bilious ness or Indigestion. But women have headaches which seem | eculiar to the sex, frequent throbbing headaches...
