Rural Workers' Log. RATES OPERATE ON OCTOBER i. The rural workers' policy of ihe Australian Workers' Union, drawn up by a recent industrial confer ence and endorsed by the execu tive of the union, deals with the rates and conditions for New South Wales, Victoria, Queens land, fojth Australia, and Tas mania, for the agricultural, viticul tural, fruitgrowing, hop-growing, market gardening, and dairying industries. These are to come into operation on October i. In the agricultural section it is laid down that 4S hours shall con stitute a week's work, such hours to be worked as follows :—Half past 7 a.m. to 20 minutes to 6 on five days of the week, with one hour for dinner; and five minutes past 7 a.m. to iVnoon on Satur | days, with two "smoke-ohs" of 15 minutes each, one in the fore noon, and one in the afternoon. H, M'Carlliv were fined 20s each for failing to comply with the Vaccination Act, in default distress. ^CUTTING TISIBEB WITHOUT A LICENSE. James Osmond and John M'Carthy were churned by W. E. Collier, Crown Lands Bailiff, with cutting timber on a water reserve at £innabulla, without being licensed or authorised to do so. W. E. Collier staled on 9lh Juno last, ho visited the reserve in question in con sequence of complaint made, and found M'Carthy with a waggon load of posts, about 50 in number, lie later visited tho Kinnabulla railway staltion, wbero ho found Osmond with « truck lond of about 400 posts. Osmond admitted hav ing cut them from (lio reserre. The posts were valued at 30s per hundred on the truck.
