THE WHEAT MARKET. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 26 November 1895

THE WHEAT MARKET. The present price of wheat in New South Wales is about 4s 8d per busUel. The price in Mark Lane, London, is about 3s 6d bushel. The natural prioo of the cereal in Austrlia is from a Is to Is 3d per bushel higher than the London price. These facts indicate as elearely as is possible of demonstration the abnormal nature ot existing conditions so iar as tne Australian wheat supply is con cerned. The direct cause of the difference between local and London prices must be over-exportation Shippers were evidently so anxious to get their wheat to London for some reason or other that they did not keep enough back for looal re quirements until the next harvest was marketed. The result has been bad for the oolouies. Not haviug kept enough for our own requirements, we bave to take (steps to get some from elsewhere, a steamer being timed to arrive from California with ono thousand tons, followed by another a little later with a large cargo. Not withstanding theso impending impo...
