The Morning Bulletin, ROCKHAMPTON. TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 1878. [Newspaper Article] — Morning Bulletin — 12 March 1878

ROCKHAMPTON. TUESDAY, MAUCR 12, 1ST8. Tm: agitation in Brisbane for a water- side terminus to / the Southern and Western Railway is based oivthc assump- tion that by the carrying ont oí this project the prosper ty of the railway port and district would be greatly enhanced, inasmuch as the < barges of exporting produce and imr orting supplies and merchandise woulc thereby be materially lessened. But this view of the question is sure to be warm] ' contested by an in- fluential minority ii the community, and among these d ssentients will be numbered some o' the principal mer- chants, who, righi ly or wrongly, are apprehensive that ihe proposed change in tile conditions of trade, however advantageous it i light prove to the public at large, would be prejudicial to themselves «individially. The common tendency of railway communication between thc country inland and the coast, is to concentrate the trade of the district at the portl of shipment, which consequently growslinto im...

LATEE ENGLISH POSTAL NEWS. ÁDELUUE, March 10. The steamship Ch nhoraxo arrived here yesterday from Loud n, bringing papers to 23rd January, four d ye later than those of the Siam. The irrcsistibjc mar ti of the RuBsianarmies towards Constantino) lo caused an impatient and half-angry feeling in ICurope, which was ' disposed to reproach I ussia for insincerity in thé matter of peace. It was believed that another week or two of diplomatic trifling, accompanied by milita y parrying, wonld re- sult in a sharp rcbounc of sympathy towards Turkey.
