The Non-refillable Bottle. [Newspaper Article] — Swan Hill Guardian and Lake Boga Advocate — 15 June 1914

The Non-pofillable Bottle. As mattefs are going now it will only be a shortperiod-before all whiskies- and brandies of meris maybe found procurable only froni non-refillable bottles. At first, in some quarters, the innovation was con sidered likely to produce inharmonious rilations between the trade and the pro prietaries adopting -it. But the con spicuous-success of the first notable whiskey to adopt it has proved that the situation was not properly gauged by those few who anticipated friction.. The good judgment of far-sighted hotelkeepers has now proved to blie the common judg ment of the trade, for by this small material force, the iion-refillable capsule, there has been built up in: surprisingly quick time a big moral cordiality and confidence between the trade- and the general public, which previously was un doubtedly lacking. The capsule is now establishing complete confidence, and this in turn is creating a distinctly better feeling between the generil-public and the trade. ...

MALLEE SHOOTS. METHODS OF DESTRUCTION. [Newspaper Article] — Swan Hill Guardian and Lake Boga Advocate — 15 June 1914

MALLEE SHOOTS. METHODS OF DESTRUCTION. A correspondent asked the department of agriculture in South.Australia:-"1. What is the best time of the year to cut mallee shoots? 2. In cutting them is it better to cut right down or slash, only about two thirds off ? 3. Does the con tinual slashing finally kill the shoots, and what is the average period taken to kill same 1 The questions were referred to Mr. L. S. Davie, manager of the Eiperimentil Farm, Veitch's Well, who rolies in the 'local " Journal of Agriculture":' 1. The greatest check to mallee shoots is given if they. are cut between harvest and seeding. ,If this is done in January, and early in February, the shoots may be fire raked, but if carried out later they would have to be horse raked, and burnt in rows. It is necessary to burn tie shoots if cut before seeding, or otherwise they will block the implements, and afterwards make it impossible to seed evenly. The above method is preferable to any other on fallow, but if stubble l...
