Football. Kohong District Central Association. Korong Vale v. Bridgewater. The Korong Va'c team, ac companied by a good crowd of supporters, journeyed to Bridge water onSaturday, whert they met the local team for 1 he fir-st time this season. There was a fair at tendance of the public, including a number of barrackei's for both sides, an:l great interest was taken in the match. The game, which was late in starting, proved ; to be interesting and excit'ng, al though at times the play was crowdeJ. The Vale team was practically the same as on the Saturday before, two nc.v players, Man ton and Gardiner, and Eeles, one of the Vale's old players, being included, all of whom gave a good account of themselves. The Bridgewater team included five ne.v players—Slavin, Polbck, | A. Bissett, E. Burge and G. W.vlie -who, no doubt, will be of great help to their team when they h ive had more experience. In the first quarter the play was fairly even. The visitors had a couple of chances, but failed...

"WORLD'S MOST ARTIFICIAL MAN." LITTLE LEFT OF HIMSELF. "The most artificial man in tlio world," by his own admission, sailed from New York for-Holland on the Holland-Amerika liner Nieuw Amstor dam. He said ho was in expectation of marrying the world's most natural girl. The bridegroom is Jan van der Blassbalk, aged 40, formerly the own er of a glass factory in Batavia, Java; and to substantiate his claim to arti ficiality he lias a cork leg, a cork arm, a rubber ear, and a glass eye, and wears a wig. It appears that while ho was experimenting with chemicals an explosion occurred which left him but little of his natural Bclf.

MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Korong Vale Lance and North West Advertiser — 13 June 1914

MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. , Concerning some parts of this exten sive district news comes but seldom. This is not entirely our fault; we have no miraculous power of knowing what is happening at all the places within our area of circulation. It is the fault of residents in the silent places, l Will some man or woman take the matter in hand and cause the silence to cease. If no on* else is doing it for your district will vou try on these lines ? Send accounts of public and social events in your township or neighbour hood, such as weddings, deaths, accid ents, concerts, sports, social gatherings, matters touching district industries, etc. Write the names of persons and places very distinctly. I. Don't bother about grammar or spell ing ; it's the editor's work to look after those trifles. The barest skeleton ii enough. _ '' qJ Write only on one side of the paper. CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS. [Newspaper Article] — Korong Vale Lance and North West Advertiser — 13 June 1914

CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS. Until your have earned to control vom; thoughts, you will never be able to live a godly and righteous life. As a man tlilnketh in his heart, so is he: and It is because the thoughts that wo entertain in the hostelry of the soul are such worthless and vain ones that our words and acts often bring so heavy a disgrace on the nam's wo love. Woll might the wise man say; "Keep thy heart with all diligence, .for out of it arfc the issues of life." When tho .heart is* right, the ear and the eye and the mouth and the foot will necessarily obey its promptiiigs; but when the heart is wrong, filled with tides of Ink, llko the cuttle flsh, it will develop Itself in the Impurity to which it gives vent. . .'•> : If you habitually permit evil things to liavo their right of way through you, or lodging within you, remember that 1n God's sight you are equally guilty with tho»e who indulgetIn' «vil acti, became you urs 'withheld not by your (mi* of Him, .but by your dMlra ' to...

Comments on Currant Events. By. " Gkadhij." We have it at last! The Double Dissolution has co ns ; and Mr Cook deserves to h ive the letters D.D. written after his name both now and forover more, amen. Joseph Cook, Dj.ib. Diss, would read well in history, and his deeds would be related and compared with those of other great historical personages whose initials are identical with .his own. Astrologers assnrj us that our names are either helpni1 to us, or poisonous, so to speak. Had Joseph Cook been nam 3d King O'Malley, for instanca, it is possible that lu never would lnvc been Prinu Minister of Australia. "The name's the thing, though Shakespeare hints to the contrary.
