0_^T"In Blair county opposition held what they called a Union convention and nominated a man named Patton for the Legislature. After the nomination it become desirable that he should express a preference on the Gubernatorial question, but Mr. Patlon declined doing so. - This made the Republicans furious, and they swore that if he did not come out for Wilmot that they would not vote for him. The "Americans" "shortly" become equally furious, that if he did not declare for Haztehurst they would drop him. So Mr. Patton picks up his duds and journeys to the west, "hoping to be back about the day before the election." An admirable dodge!

Panic! Panic! in the Money Market! is the cry that fills people's _mouths and the columns of newspapers. Strange that people should so misapply, terms. There is no panic in the Money Market —money being just as plenty as ever.— The panic is all in the Credit market. It's the scarcity of credit that created ihe panic. Is it not so, ye financiers ?

BY _JOHST WEIDMAX. BEY, JOHN &E0EOfi _LOCHMAF, D. D In addition to the congregations men_. Hioned in the former part of this sketch, Dr. Lochman, was the pastor of the congregations at Kitnmerling'a and Bindnaigel*s churches. The congregation at Myerstown was not among his regular con* gregations. He only preached there occasionally. From 1794. to 1815, a period of twenly.one years, this faithful servant of Christ, labored zealously in these numerous congregations, The duties of a pastor in that day were far more arduous than now. The increase of wealth and population, has reduced the number of congregations to which a clergyman was required to minister. Few Clergymen in Eastern Pennsylvania have now more than two or three charges. Dr. Lochman had six and to the eternal welfare of these he devoted himself with such affectionate zeal, that he came to be looked upon by all the members, with a love and reverence of which there are few like examples. The Father of the Lu...

The Noblest Ambition. It has boon well remarked by an American poet, 'that no gift, however beautiful, no successhowever brilliant, should be placed above the skill and talents which can relieve a single pang, and the self-devotion which lays them at the feet of the humblest fellow creature." Judged by this rule, Proiessor Holioway, of whom the world has heard so much during the last twenty years, occupies a high position. His life seems to have been devoted to the alleviation of suffering, and his desire to benefit his fellow creatures appears to have been seconded by an amount of natural talent and acquired skill, seldom combined in one individual. The practical result of this combination has been the production of two remedies known throughout the world as Hollowny's Pills & llolloway's Ointment, which, if any value can be attached to human testimony, have left all devices of science far behind in the great work of relieving pain, strengthening the constitution and prolo...
