Brother Davis' whole argumont waB to show that the high tariff known as tho Morrill tariff that was adopted in 1874 has served to lower tho price of articles affected by it. He thinks "figures from a merchant's salesbook ought to be stronger evidence than the vaporings of a politician on the stump,'1 and then he proceeds to compare the prices of some articles of hardware in 18G4 with the prices of the present day, quoting from the books of Messrs. Owens & Barkley. Has our neighbor forgotten that a civil war was raging along about 1804, and that the prices of most everything at that time were way up yonder?
