HOPS. Progress of HopgTowera Indications for . the Coming Crop Good The weather conditions have never been more favorable for a successful year In hop growing. Much interest in the business Is taken by some who have k'rown lukewarm owing to the demorallizcd condition of the hop trade in past years, and some of the abandoned yards which have not been plowed up will be brought under cul tivation this year. Many growers arc setting poles and some haye purchased twine, notwithstanding that supplies are higher than last year. Altogether the outlook in Polk and Marion counties arc llatterlns?. The roots are in Hue condition and when warm weather does set In the plants will 1 ush right along. Hopmen gen erally realize that thorough cultiva tion and training and dllllgent spray ing is of more importance than any other expenditure in the production of tine hops. This added to careful curing and supervision of picking is the key-note to successful growing. A GROWERS EXPERIENCE. St. Paul, Marc...

IS FLAX EXHAUSTIVE? Is flax tlic exhaustive crop sooie would lmvo us believe? "Vc liavc put this question to Dr. Thornton and he answers pesitively: "No It is not!" Ithas been demon strated by cateful scientific Investiga tion conducted at the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment station, far several years that flax is not the ex haust ive crop generally supposed. (In Minn. Evpt. Station Bulletin No. IT and 40.)
