Cos JUuirtcs Small CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIAL PAPER. TUESDAY JAN. 5, 187"). There is room in the church and need for all manner of workers. The poorest and least recognized are as much needed as any. Open your watch; your eye falls on jewels there; but the sparkling jewels cannot say tv tlie modest coil of steel beside them, « We have no need of thee;" for thai is the mainspring; and the mainspring cannot say to the tiniest cog-wheel, " We have no need of thee," for with out it the works stand still. It is just so with the Church of Christ. One little worker can mar the whole by failing to fulfil his office. There is a place for each.—.V. Every grade and color of no bility and royally is in demand here. The Herald's large edition of tbe great Ist of January number was ex hausted' yesterday morning. To the four thousand copies issued we might have added two thousand mote and found ready sale for them. It will be seen by a telegram from Nevada, printed in another column, that there is trouble iti the Republi can camp, iinii Sharon's followers have revolted. We have no faith in this story. 'I'lte slips between the cup and the lip are rare, when it is a rich man's lip that seeks the cup. Now that a State election is near at hand, the subject of Chinese immigra tion is once more attracting the atten tion of some of our ctitempoiarit s. CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIAL PAPER. WEDNESDAY JAN. (>, 1875. San Diego County. The San Diego Union, in its review of the year, gives tho following statis tics of San Diego county for 1874: Of the six million acres of arable land in this county, about 46,000 acres are now directly under cultivation, and this acreage is being continually en larged. Five years aro less than ten thousand ucres'were cultivated. Until last year the greater part of the grain supply of the county, and almost the total supply of breadstuil's, was im ported. A large portion of the fruit and vegetable supply of the city was also imported. But 1874 changed all that; for not only did we produce the supply required for consumption, but tliere was a large surplus for export. The wheat production of the county reaches 800,000 centals, and this will be largely Increased in 1875. The bar ley yield of last year is sufficient to supply the home demand—something thai lias not heretofore occurred. The {iroduction of India...

It is a valuable compilation and is well filled with statistical information. The California Granger has been consolidated with tlie Pacific Sural Press. This will make the Pre** the best agricultural paper published on the Pacilic coast. The San Francisco Examiner, Grass Valley Union and Marysville Appeal commenced new volumes with the beginning of the new year. They are all good papers and worthy the pros perity that has attt .ied them.
