' - CLOTHES AS D THINGS. Bonnet and IIat Trimmxngs. As a general rule, the hats are, this Beason, all trimmed directly at the back and .front -with immense bouquets of flow ers, and it is quite the exception to see them trimmed at the side. There is a conspicuous absence of drapery, which , Tras formerly eo elaborate ; and the Tines, instead of trailing down the back of the hats, are brought round the front and over the crown. Another fea ture in vines is that they are laden down with flowers in bunches, and do not ta per off. as was th ar loot va Beaded hats and beaded bonnets eeem to be crenerally in favor, this snrinrr and the absence of strings is noticeable. In the place of largo roses and other large flowers, we are to have fine flow ers, such as daisies, violets, lilies of the vaiiey and mignonette. A Steamboat In a Tornado. A New Orleans paper of a recent date describes a disaster in the follow ing vivid 6tvle : "On the 15th instant, as the well-known and splendid steam boat Natchez was cominpr down the river, and whilo opposite the lower end of Natchez Island, some twenty miles this side of the city of that name, she was struck by a terrible tornado from the Louisiana side, which in a second had wrenched her immense chimneys from their sockets, broken all the stanch ions loose, cut short off the steam pipe?, and thrown them into a wreck on the upper deck on the right side, which, giviDg way with their weigut, broke and fell with a terrible crash on the lower deck, whence it was tumbled into the river. The officers in charge, even though the tornado struck without a moment's warning, rushed to their posts," and clearing the wreck, the pilots stood by the wheel and urged ner on to the island.
