A nreliminarv meetm? was held at the Court House on Wednesday evening to discuss the ques tion, considered by many in this community as of j vital importance to our commercial prosperity, of increasing our exports, w hich was numerously attended. - The proceedings were highly interesting, and all the remarks made, tended to show that the busi ness of planting could be carried on profitably at the islands, could capital be procured to prosecute ' the work with proper vigor and energy. On the morning of Wednesday a mm by the name of Henry Burns, who had been arrested and confined in the fort, was found dead, with such marks of violence upon hia person aa to lead to the belief that he had met with foul play. A good deal of excitement was occasioned by this discovery, and many rumors were in circulation in regard to it, which we need not repeat As soon as the necessity arrangements could be made, a Coroner's jury was summoned by the Marshal, which rendered the following verdict CORONER'S VERDICT. We, the undersigned, summoned by the Mar shall of Honolulu to hold an inquest upon the body of Henry Burns, seaman, and to decide upon the probable cause of his death, have all agreed, aftpr due reflection upon the statements of the witnesses produced, that Henry Burns' death was caused by a blow inflicted with a club in the hands of Constable Geo. ' " Micronesia. .The safe return of the schooner Ca&oxjxc, on Sunday last, after, an absence of four and a half months, was a welcome event to many in this com inunity. Rev. Messrs. Clark and Kckela return ed in Ler, bringing with them two natives of Pitt's inland for th nurnnae of instruction, to return again to their country at some future time. Our readers will recollect that the Caroline sailed hence on the 15th of July last, for the purpose of conveying to Micronesia the Rev. Messrs. Snow, Golick and Sturges with their wives, and two na tives of the Hawaiian Islands, with their wives a teachers, to establish a mission in that extensive archipelago under the patronage of the A. B. C. F.
