Engbrock Managing Editor Donnita Nesbit Fisher Guest Editorial Do a bit of research By Victoria Acuay "I'm protesting for my parents!" "I'm here because that new immigration law is stupid." "jViva Mdxico!" These were all replies from protesting students when asked by news reporters why they were walking out of class and walking to city halls in several cities in protest of proposed federal immigration laws. Truth be told, 'many of the students skipping school in order to "fight" for their rights are completely oblivious to the damage they are causing. Caught up in the hype of fellow Latin-Americans, students are, actually, helping no one and hurt- ing only themselves and the Latino cause. Thursday, April 13, 2006 - THE SACHSE NEWS - Section B - Page 3 Lady Mustangs earns overtime victories against Garland, The Woodlands continued from page IB The last one, had it gone in, would have been interesting to say the least, as the ball sailed just over the net after ricocheting directly off of Elyse Berta's face with three sec- onds remaining. A few inches lower, and Sachse would again find itself in a shootout, something that happened Friday, when they and the Lady Highlanders remained tied at 1-1 after two halves and a pair of over- time periods. The Woodlands quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead during the shootout, but freshman goalie Jamie Abercrombie then blocked a pair of shots, and forced another to go wide. Meanwhile, Ryanne Lewis, Christine Mendo/.a, and Goczell all scored to give the Lady Mustangs the win. "1 just tried to keep them relaxed," Harvey said. "I knew our goalie would do her job." •The Lady Highlanders got on the fird first with a header goal by Sarah Morris, w...

The town that started as Nickelville in the 1870s with a handful of residents now boasts a population of around 30,00() ^-people. ™) Two Wylie businesses, in particu- lar, show the dynamics of change in this area. They also demonstrate how Wylie has managed to hold on to its past while embracing its future. The first, RJ's Boot, Shoe and Saddle Repair, is a one-man opera- tion that, while still viable, conjures Up nostalgic visions of the open fields and gravel roads that once spread over this area. The other, eAuctions/Quick Response, is a computer technology business owned and operated by a 15-year-old boy — a reflection of the technology-filled, suburban neigh- borhoods that are now planted in those fields.
