I 'As you are aware, I suppose, a new. line of railway is now in counise of construction from here to Bacchus Marsh wihicli is likely to be opened up ai far as Melton 'soon, and as it! seems that we *are not to have a siding or platform at Braybiook, I would suggest that sume of our Councillors take 'the necessary steps to interview our respected member 11. M. Clark Esq. upon the subject, to use his influence with the Government in this matter, ,which would prove a great boon to many of us Ihere. At present, we haveto walk into Foots cray to get a train for town, and as theie are a great many residents here. employes of the railway contractors, and also of the Litho fracteur Co. works, who, would, gladly avail themselves of the convenience, it should pay the Government. The Independent "ONWARD AND UPWARD." FOOTSCRAY, SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 1884. Education Act Administration. [Newspaper Article] — Independent — 15 March 1884

"ONWARD AND UPWARD."' FooTscRAY, SATURDAY, MARCI 15, 1884. Education Act Administration. As a rule the great mass of the public are well satisfied with the principles of our.Education Act, and it is extremely improbable that any extensive alteration of them would. meet with such a support .as would.. warraht any Ministry in proposing a serious change. But with regard to the adminiistration, the details of working, there are a goodly zifibib~i of iteis. on which the public mind is fully,.made up that changes should take place and that without deliy. In the litlits of an article it is impossible to enter into all of these, our remarks will therefore be confined at present to one system of punishment adopted in schools, which we think of so pernicious a character as to demand the attention of every parent. That is what is called " Keeping-in" : at the interval for lunch' or after school hours, which is. done to, a degree scarcely known, and the 'ffects' of which can hardly be appreciat...
