EXPERT "ADVICE WANTED MICA. [Newspaper Article] — Coolgardie Miner — 4 October 1913

EXPERT 'ADVICE WANTED. MICA. A considerable' amount of discussion has been occasioned by The' activities^ of mica prospectors for some time past, and fees totalling something in the vicinity of fSO . have been paid on leases taken up on and near Yimie fcharra station (says the '-Northern. Timed'). Everybody is-agreed that a valuable asset exists in our Miiicn, de posits, but there is a lack of experi mental knowledge as to. methods of ex tracting the mica and preparing it for export. Considering this., fact,' the lage number of mica leases taken up and the newness of the industry, so far, as this State isi concerned,- it is tha plain duty of the Government to seac1, us an expert so report on the deposits and giA^e advice regarding them. We uderstand-, however, that the Govern ment has persisted in a refusal to send us an expert.' Fred Wilkinson, who is now on the Domino group down     south of Parker's Range, was the first man to export mica from: Aus- tral...

Burtville Mining. GASTON'S GOLD. [Newspaper Article] — Coolgardie Miner — 4 October 1913

Burtville Mining. GASTON'S GOLD. Sir,— I am sorry to have to trouble you again with one of my letters, but this one is not a personal letter. It is one for the public. I went to Burt- ville on Sunday to see Messrs. Gaston and King's mine, the Nil Desperandum. I will give you my opinion of it as it looks now. I may be wrong, but I will give it. Mr. Gaston, the manager, was very kind to me and showed me around. The dump for the battery to look at it one would pass it by, as it does not look any different from any other, but when you break the stone or lode matter you can see gold in   most of it. The battery will tell, and if I am not mistaken it will astonish the mining world. We went down ladders for 50ft. Then 40ft. or 50ft. west is the golden belt. It is not a reef, nor is it a lode. I don't know what to call it. It has been driven     on for 56ft. and they are not through it. Mr. Gaston knocked down about 50lb. of stone at the end of the 56f...

INTERVIEW WITH MR.KING [Newspaper Article] — Coolgardie Miner — 4 October 1913

INTERVIEW WITH MR. KING. When we saw the glowing accounts of the find in Messrs. Gaston and King's show at Burtville, we cut them out and took them to Mr. King and   asked him what he thought of his change of luck. "Tom" was busy as usual, and as he cut away at some rashes of bacon he said, "It looks good, and I am so well impressed with the wires my partner sends me daily that I am going to sell out of this business."     Ater filling several orders Tom quietly read the good news, and then became more communicative. He said: "We bought the "Nil" for £3,000 cash nearly nine years ago, and though   we have got some of the purchase money back, it still owes us a fair   amount."     Are you a seller? "Oh, no. Gaston has been a good mate, and I do not intend to interfere now that our luck has turned. He   was good enough for me in our days of adversity and will be good enough now that...

SMALL BORE RIFLE NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — Coolgardie Miner — 11 October 1913

SMALL BOBE RIFLE NOTES. The Coolgardie Club has had a very successful run with this pastime, and even though the club has lost a num ber of members through transferring to other parts, there is still a ? goodly _ number to be seen on the range on Sunday mornings. This is 'the rifl-a that young Australians should take up, which, will give them their first insight .into the: art of shooting, ana the Cool gardie Club lends itself in this diree- - tion. Eiflos are at a very reasonable j .figure, and the cost of maintaining one self as a member of this elub is ex ceptionally small. Particulars can be obtained from the secretary (Mr. A. Lapham), of the Armstrong Cycle Co. Sunday last saw the concluding shoot .for tEe club's trophy, which had a very close finish, the winner being H. Austin, after a shoot off with Miss M. Davison. ' ' .- A good crushing was obtained last week from, the old Junction at Bui banks at the end of the Lady Ro.bin son leases', a' small parcel being- put through for a little over 3ozs. to thd ton. This is a very satisfactory crush ing, and it is to be hoped that plenty , ' more of the stone is available. From present indications, it seems to be that aTgood quantity of the stoi^e is in sight.' These are the sort of crushings which, give the town the best fillip in the way of advertising.
