Concert anil £2 a EH at MornmsSaln. 'from our Upper Yanko Correspondent. The concert and ball referred to in my last came to , a most ' successful termination on Friday ...night last. It was proclaimed by all -who wended their way to it the best ever held in the district. Whether it was or not I'm not going to sny, but I know the finnnces panned out well, something close on £30 being cl eared, ? The principal workers in getting up the affair were Mrs. Luckie, Mrs. Harrington, and Mr. i. Jl'liennon (hon, sec.), and you may be sure they turned every stone to make it pass off pleasantly, nnd ought not they to be pleased with them selves for the brilliant success which at tended their efforts. I was pleased, Mr. Editor, to receive a programme printed at your office and drawn out in excellent style. At 7.30 the doors were opened, nnd nt 8 o'clock tliire were fully 300 people waiting for n start to be made. ' Amongst tho num ber I noticed our genial pastor R. T. Daly, D.D., who appeared q...

The Mask Ball at Urana. [Newspaper Article] — Jerilderie Herald and Urana Advertiser — 11 November 1898

I TTJue Mas?* at TUrana. (From our own Correspondent.) The Fancy Dress Ball came off on Wed nesday evening, and was a gruat success, about 36 couples gracing the floor of the School of Arts. By the description of the dresses I am sending you it will be se6n that fancy dresses were not very numerous, owing, ho doubt, to the inability to procure them at such a Bhort notice, but notwith standing, the affair was one of the best ever held in Orana, nnd tho result should be very gratifying to the committee of the hospital for whose benefit it was given. Great credit is due to the following ladies who, with their usual liberality, provided the refreshments, viz., Mesdfiints Smith, Walker, T. Thatcher nnd others, who served out dainties to tho liungrf dancers and onlookers during the whole night. Thanks is also due to the gentlemen who supplied the music gratuitously, viz., Messrs. J. liyan and Jns. Smith (violius)i T. Breim (flute), E. 'Mcehan (piccolo), and Jas. Iloban, junr., (piano). Th...

Urana. November 11. [Newspaper Article] — Jerilderie Herald and Urana Advertiser — 11 November 1898

XTraim. November 11. The Gentlemen's Handicap Singles, which had ben postponed from the Tennis Club's tournament on the 15th ult., were played out on Saturday last. There were seven competitors, and these were drawn against one another and had to fi^ht it out until two were left in the final. The games were well contested, and the result was in doubt until the last stroke. Our veteran player, Mr. Seton, gave Mr. Newton a hard go for Ins win, and at one time seemed to have the hrst of the game. Dr. Macknight and Mr. Hill played a very good game, and were evenly matched ; their set was watched with pleasure, and the players were often, ap plauded for their skill. The result was a close win for Mr. Hill. Sir. Whitehead played well, and disposed of R. Seton, junr., and H. Brett in turn ; then he had to try conclusions in the final with Mr. Newton, who had in the meantime bent™ Mr. Hill. In this set Mr. Whitehead maintained a h ad to within three of the finish, but Mr. New ton made a str...

' Slow X Obtitincil a Iteanti f«l Comitlcxion.' A LADY'S RECIPE As all our readers, and these of the fair sex especially, are particularly interested in obtaining, a perfect complexion, we have much pleasure in printing a really good i recipe sent us by Mrs. Johns, of GO Yurong i Street Sydney. In a note to us she says : — ? ' I really tried everything to improve my complexion ; my face used to be perfectly yellow ; my lips were bloodless and my gums white, and I was fearfully weak — a victim to persisrenr, pernicious anicmia ^mooaiessutss; Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, however, gave me a dazzling, beautiful complexion , and made me most strong and always energetic. Formerly, I was very thin and fearfully thin and depressed in spirits ; whilst my appetite failed me altogether. My sleep used to be restless and disturbed, and I was so tired in tho mornings that I could hardly get out of bed, and when I did I used to lay on tho sofa, feeling I hardly cared what happened. I saw a dnctos who...
