KEMPSEY SESSIONS^ AT KempSe'y Sessions on ifonday and Tuesday Judge Docker presided. Frederick Varley, the man who escaped from Trial Bay Borne time ago, was sentenced to two years- extra for escaping and for stealing. William Kennedy, for stealing £11 from Austral Verge, got six months' hard labor. Thomas Richardson, a youth who pleaded guilty to stealing a letter with money in it while he was employed in West Kempsey post office, was sentenced to 12 months, the sentence being suspended under the First Offenders Act on accused finding two sureties of £25 eacli. Thte case against Thomas Nance, on a charge of selling drugs at Bowra for an unlawful purpose, broke down. The chief witness for the Crown was John Joseph Peterson, at present serving two years in Goulburn gaol for procuring the drugs from Nance and giving them to a girl at Bo.vra. Peterson absolutely refused to give evidence, and was sentenced to an extra twelve months in gaol for contempt of court. Nance was therefore acqu...

THE MARX HILL TROUBLE. On Thursday afternoon last, Mr. j. H. Young, Minister for Works, and Mr. J. McLaughlin, M.P.j were driven to Marx Hill by Mr, F. T. Matthews, J.P., Mr. G. S. Brincr accompanying the visitors. Mr. Matthews pointed out the necessary devia tion in the road, and explained the cost would not be very great, while the benefit resulting trora cue oetter graded roan would be very welcome. The party drove over the hill as far as the showground, and while Mr. Young admired the tine scene from the top of the hill he admitted tliat'a better road was needed. He said that if.it could be done at a reasonable cost, there was no doubt it would be approved. It was pointed out by Mr. Briner that the cutting was dangerous even in day time for ordinary traffic, the turns being Sharp, while heavy traffic was almost out of the question, llr. Dr. Ilruco, Chief Commissioner of the Presbyterian Chnrch of New South Wales, arrived, at ' Strathclydc,' the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Coch rane, Upper Orara, on Wednesday evening at 9 o'clock. On Thursday morning Dr. Druee .'.visited Karangi public school, and visited some of the people who were ill, or convales cent. He then went to Upper Bucca, where the school ami buttery were visited.
