BRIAGOLONG. [Newspaper Article] — The Maffra Spectator — 21 June 1883

BRIAGOLONG         (FROM A CORRESPONDENT) The main topic here is the cattle stealing cases now investigated at Bairnsdale. Great dissatisfaction is felt at the inefficiency of the police and bench in deal with such glaring cases. For some time past our cattle were disappearing, having no clue to their whereabouts. Mr W.G. Forbes   well deserves the thanks of the community for his eneergetic actions, whether he succeeds or not, in bringing the offenders to justice. Too many people when a scoundrel is at large, would sooner put up with the loss, this only encourages crime. Cattle stealing is almost   the only offence for which we require protection unless summarly put   a stop to, by severe and unflinching sentences. After reading, the report of tlhe Brothers RednnqWid Ilectures, I am puzzled to see on whiat ground we could much an-sf-'youdcontemln orary tleo Mercir!l alid h"is acolytos had . ba...
