Wodonga & Towong Sentinel. Awake ! Arise ! Or be for ever fallen ! - MILTON. FRIDAY, JULY 1, 1887. Some of the inhabitants of Wodonga appear to have been born under lucky planets. On more than one accasion lately we have recorded instances for for- tunate individuals all at once becoming wealthy, owing to the death of rich relatives in the old country. The latest to hand, however, if the story be true- and the man gives his statement very   consistently - certainly "caps" all the others. The lucky man is Mr John Hinton, yardman at Mr Peter M'Lean's storek and the amount he expects to be handed him in case on Tuesday week, in Sydney, is not less than £125,000, in addition to which he is to becaome pos- sessed of 48 acres of town proptery in Dumfireshire, Scotland. For a few months past, Hinton, who is a rather intelligent man, has been engaged by Mr M'Lean, and he bears the reputation of being a very steady, reliable man. He states that he received a communicatio...

REPORT OF THE A.M.A. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 8 July 1887

REPORT OP TTHE A.M.A. The following report concerning the financial position of the branches of the A.M..., signed by Mr W. G. Spenco, bas been sent to us for publication: In compliance with the instructions of last annual conference, I beg to call the special attention of branches to the question pf finance, with a view of each branch com mittee carefully considering their posltion, with special regard to the future. In the first place, tei would remlid mom bers that the association is, above all other ,e efits, a trade union. The protection of r'gh a and privileges of members,- the up. holding of a fair rate of remuneration, &c., is the most 'important, and should, in all camse, be the principal thing to aim at. During times of peace and quietness regard. lng wages, the matter of accident relief comes more directly under the notice of mem. hers, and there is a very great danger of their drifting into the habit of looking upon the association as merely a benefit society.
