The Council has passed the. tariff through committee. - On Monday, at noon (sara the aydaey 'orning .erald), a novel meeting wae held it Waratah. About one hundred miners' wives assembled on the hill near the public school, for the purpose of disecrsing the subject of the Waratah strike. A deputation was al pointed to wait on Mir Mloody, who received it moat courteously, and promised to consider the matters brought under his notics. MANSFIELD. Foax "1 THEsIN nDEPET ." At the lest meeting of the Mansfield Shire Council, a petition purporting to be signed by. the ratepayers of the Merton Riding against the severance of that riding from the Shire of 'Alexandra was laid before the Council for its consideration and for remarks thereon. In addition to this, only two of these signing reside.in the portion of the riding sought to be severed.
