POLICE INCIDENTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Australian — 12 August 1826

POLICE INCIDENTS. Francis Thorn was brought up on Thursday on suspi-   cion of being a runaway. On enquiry tins suspicion was ascertained to be unfounded. It appeared that the pri-   soner was attached to the Rooty Hill Government Esta- blishment, and had come to Sydney under the authority of a constable stationed there. On this explanation being given, the man was discharged.     A prisoner of the crown was charged with having ab-   sented himself from his quarters, the Barracks, for seven- teen days past. It appeared from the evidence that the prisoner had been employed by a person in Sydney, to whom he had represented himself as being entitled to the indulgence of appropriating a certain portion of the day to his own immediate benefit. This statement being a false   one, the prisoner was in consequence consigned to the la-   bours of the Tread-mill for ten revolving days. Several individual...

To the Editor of the Australian. [Newspaper Article] — The Australian — 16 August 1826

To the Editor of the Australian. SIR,                             I have observed in the Sydney Gazette of the 15th ult. an account of Liverpool— respecting the assembling of juries, &c. &c. strongly tending to mislead all those who are not aware of the population and geography of that part of the country, and to keep in the back ground some of the best districts of couutry in New South Wales. I am therefore anxious to state such   facts, as may lend to shew the real nature of this part of the country, without intending to detract any thing from the merits of Liverpool. The facts are, that the country immediately about Liverpool is of a very inferior description — the soil cold and barren, so much so, that there is only a spot here and there that is at all worth cultivating, ...

PARRAMATTA POLICE. [Newspaper Article] — The Australian — 16 August 1826

PARRAMATTA POL ICE.     Mary Bradly, acting in the capaciey of servant at the Fe-   male Orphan School, being charged on last Tuesday week with stopping out longer than her pass allowed, was ordered to become an inmate of the Factory   Mary Grady , a free damoiselle, and one who has earned for herself the happy nick-name of "Timber Carriage," had exhi-   bited against her, in due form, the charge of being drunk and disorderly ; not in the sanetum sanctorum of her domicile, but in the public streets. This "delicate" fair one seemed, from her       gigantic stature, to be descended from some Gluindalceltopia or the Brobdignac family : nor was her resolution disproportionate     to her outward bulk ; for being recommended a solitary stand in         the stocks, for two hours, and it was in truth a raw, frosty, missling nasty, dirty d...
