The Town Clerk : (Mr.. ,A.,T. Kay) in a special report to the City Council, said: "In some cases pensioners' pro perties are producing income. "There are pensioners who have mor;e . than.. one.lot of. land in the curtilage of their dwell ings; land fror.?tages, values and rates vary in almost every case. "The fairest concession would be to write off the same amount of rates for each pensioner, but the. Government will only grant a subsidy up to half the amount of rates. "I am tunable to ascertain the number of rate'payers in our area who .would be involved, as so marny pensioners are tenants. 'The pensioner -who pays rent would not receive any concession under the :Government's scheme."

Council that he in tends to approach "interested bodies" in Parramrnatta, with the view of establiishing a local or chestra. Council's finance committee has rejected suggestions for a subsidy to revive the Civic Sym phony Orchestra. A committee, formed to help revive the now defunct Civic Symphony Orchestra,. is seeking subsidies from North Sydney, Botany, Ashfield, Marrickville, Willoughby, Ryde, Parramatta, Kuring-gai, Auburn, Rand ick, LIeichhardt and Mosman Coun cils.
