To the Editor. Sir. — Kindly allow me space to draw public attention to a mutter which I con sider a grave scandal to all right-thinking persons, and toassist in furthering theput tingdownofbigotryandreligioussectional j feeling in onr evervday life and actions, j Asall are well aware, we have fi provisional school at Mapleton, andthisforsomevears has been the cause of a certain amount of ill-feeling through the interference of those who have extra religious blood of a special nature in their bodies. When 1 appointments have had to be made in the | jiast, our school ' committee have made j a recommendation that the one appointed j should be a Protestant. This would be j alright to all hands did they all belong to the same denomination, but for a ! school committee to specialise the re- j Iigions belief of the teacher to be sent i them is nothing short of an insult to J an equally intelligent people as them selves. To the Editors Sir. — Oar member of the shire council for No. 3 division is slow to repair the pinches on the BlackaK-road. The money spent is generally on the Mapleton end. j near his place. I noticed in your last I issue a further sum is to be spent on the I road near Uie top. The reiison is obvious. ; He wants a, deviation to cut ont the t pinches to nieet ihe views of a few of the ! ratepayers on the top : this will be the second deviation; in 12 months. The first one he does not intend to use, as appar e-ntly he has channel his miud. To the Editor. Sir.— I won'd like to draw attention to a statement made by Mr. Lindsay and which appeared in the published report of the Maroochy P.A.K. and I. Society in the 'Chronicle' of the 4th instant, com menting on the manner in which the orchards were judged for Mr. Campbell's prize. He,says he understood that the award was for the best orchard of five acres of fruit-bearing trees, and such being the case he considered that he alone of all the competitors was eligible to com- [ pete, as he was the onlv one who had five f acres of trees bearing fruit at the time, i Now. sir, I am very much surprised that ! Good Tonics For Swine. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 19 February 1904

Good Tonics For Swine. It is necessary to keep con stantly accessible to all pigs material that supplies lime and salt to aid in bone building, as an appetiser, and to remove intestinal parasites. This mixture should be kept in a strong box protected from ram, and the quantity and frequenc\r with which pigs will visit and eat of the mixture will often be surprising. ; The following is the mixture that vre use : — Charcoal, one and one-half bushels. I Common' sal|t, 5 lbs. Hard wood ashes, 10 lbs. Slacked lime, 4 lbs. Another thing which is good for the pigs is a variety of feeds. Pigs do better on a variety than ;on any single feed. This fact is scarcely ever disputed %y the farmer, but is often enough ignored to ! to give it emphasis. Just how much better the pig will do if fed a variety, we will let the pig himself testify ; for what ever other mean thing a. pig will do he will ; not tell a lie about his feed. : Fresh water, shade in sum mer, grain food when on grass, and dry bed ...
