ROT OR BANE AMONG SHEEP. [Newspaper Article] — The Riverine Grazier — 7 April 1875

ROT OR BANE AMONG' SHEEP. $ , lliese terms which are employed to indicate 11 peculiar form ol parasitic disease of sheep w,cre invented before, the true cause of the malady was known, and tliey are, in consequence, somewhat indefinite. They, however.' suggest a complaint which is destructive to the animals, and few of the flockowne^s who suffered from the great outbreak of 18C0 will question the fitness of any. terms which express the eminently deadly nature of the. disease. Rot is a wasting malady. The affected hnhnals , gradually fall away, until there is nothing left on their carcases whieli is worth using for.. dogs meat; and when . thevdead sheep. ore opened, the remarkable pallor of the. * muscular tissues, which ought to bo dark red in colour, attracts the. notice of even a casual looker on. Everybody is not satisfied with this long ces sation from labor enjoyed by lion members, but I think the Ministry will he the last to wisli for re-openin'g of rarnamenr, as tncy nave before thein anything bu,t n pleasant duty.: There, must be a. revision of the tariff, and this will be certain to evoke a great amount of loud speaking and opposition, so that Mr Kerfo'rd has no very pleasant prospect before him in the House.
