TUESDAY, FEBEUABY 8TH. (Before the Police Magistrate.) J. Molloy, » deserter from H, M.S. T.rch, was charged with the larccucy of a saddle, the property of Claus Te tersen. Accused pleaded not guilty but admitted haviug taken the saddle with the inteution of returning it to Mr Petersen. He was in a hurry in letving Hambledon and as his own saddle was being repaired he took the first one he could get. When he sold his horse at Boar Packet he refused to sell the siddle but told the man to return it to Hambledon. The Magirtrate said'that he quite under- stood Molloy'« motive in taking the saddle and he knew that he was in a hurry while leaviug. Hambledon. ~He would inflict no penalty in this in»tance but Molloy would have to pay the prosecuting witnesses' expeuscs. A partial restoration of wages in- volving ^3000 per annum, has been made to Railway employees who were retrenched in 1893, and increases will in future be considered quarterly. A little child, a daughter of a lengthsman at Dunrollan, was knocked down and killed by a train on the Cleveland line to-day. In a boating accident at the Hamil- ton! Reach, near Hemmant, a young man named Samuel Webster was drowned yesterday.
