RUGBY LEAGUE By "Old Blue" B. Grade. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 17 July 1947

RUGBY LEAGUE By "Old Blue" B. Grade. Liverpool had about 300 club support- ers to see them kick off into a strong wind at Emu Plains last Sunday when they continued their winning way. Two penalties had them defending, their handling was poor and tackling weak. After 15 minutes Willingham made ground and Pope opened the score with a try for Penny to kick an easy goal and the half-time score was 5-0. Coach Whitney must have said tile right words at interval, for the team was trans- formed, tries coming from real football in the following order: Paley, followed four minutes later by O'Brien, three minutes more and Goldfinch was in, after 5 minutes B. Willingham crossed and near the end skipper W. Penny scored his try in addition to kicking three goals in the second spell. Piñal score 2.-0. A. Gradb The locals kicked with the. wind and were on Liverpool line, McDonnell scor- ing nicely and Liverpool were down 0-3. A penalty from the kick-off saw Cough lin and the score was 2-3. HAMMONDVILLE JOTTINGS [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 17 July 1947

HAMMONDVILLE JOTTINGS The scene at Hammondville on Sat- urday morning last reminded one of the days of relief work as mattocks were doing overtime digging holes for the planting of trees. It was evident thai a loo of the skill learned in those days was" not ioryit^n. However, c(wn.{gh holes were prepared to plant about 30 trees. Members of the Naturalist Society of Sydney turned up in force, and after planting a considerable number of trees in the school ground, turned their at- tention to the streets at Hammondville. The ceremony over, they were treated with afternoon tea in the hall, when quite a number of speakers expressed their surprise at the growth of the vil- lage, and expressed their pleasure at thc interest shown in the ceremony by thc .settlers. * * * Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Sid j Jenkins on the birth of a daughter.

SOCCER [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 17 July 1947

SOCCER On Saturday, July 19th at Fairfield Park, the first round of the N.S.W. Junior Championship matches will take place and the Southern Districts Soccer Association's Under 18 team is playing Canterbury. This should develop into a good fast match, as the local boys are an evenly-balanced team. On Sunday, 20th, good soccer will also be seen, as the return match with Woonona all-age and under 18 will be played and such players as C. Stewart and E. Drain (reps, for Australia) and ether State boys will be seen in action. To boost ehe game along, arrangements have been made with Granville Club to play their second grade team against a pick- ed eleven from the Southern Districts, date to be fixed. It is very satisfying to the Association to see that their efforts- have not been in vain in restarting the round-bali code in the Southern Districts, and next year they hope to run competitions that will suit all ages, so they leave it to you -get your clubs going or the next foot [ ball se...
