Sir neory Hayes, raid my informant (aa old lady wbo had been tlie wife of a government official in New South Wales) was what wan called in Sydney *'a Special.- Specials were gentlemen by birth and education, who had beer, convicted of offenses which, however heinous in a hgal point of view, did not involve any parti cular degree of baseness.
