SOME COURT PERQUISITIES. "A DAINTY BIT PLAN." [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 5 January 1889

SOME COURT PERQUISITIES. A DAINTY BIT PLAN; I announced last week that a private commission, consisting of Lord Derby, Lord Sydney, Mr Goschen, and Sir Reginald We) by, has been, and still is engaged in making inquiries into the con stitution' and cost of the Royal House? bold, with the view of carrying out a variety of economical reforms. I learn that these retrencements are to be of a root-and-branch character and on the most extensive scale, and they will affect the departments of Lord Chamberlain, Mastei of the Hoase, and the Board'of Green Cloth. It is in contemplation to cnt down the salaries of the Lord Chamberlain and the Lord Steward from £2000 each to £500 each, the Master of the Horse is to be reduced from £2,500 to £500, and the Captains of the Gentle men at Arms and the Xoemen of the Guard respeetively are to be dealt with in a similar way. It is certainly pre posterous that wealthy peers should re ceive large salaries for performing orna mental duties at Court, and the...

Radiua & Wallaran Times KADINA, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1889. THE FARMERS. THE CROPS AND THE WATER SUPPLY. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 9 January 1889

Haitnu k BMarait ?imts KADINA, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1889. THE FARMERS. THE CROPS AND THE WATEB SUPPLY. THEBE were three meetings of far mers and others convened for Satur day last. One was to be held at the farm of Mr E. Mayne, on the Kadina &nd Moonta road. The object of the conyeners was two-fold-they were anxious to pass a resolution with'the view of inducing the Commissioner of Crown Lands, either to postpone or forego this year's rent, as many of thoBe in the district who hold miscel laneous and scrub leases have reaped little more than a bushel per acre. But unfortunately at a half-hour after the advertised time there were only about a half-a-dozen who turned up besides the conveners (Messrs Trenberth and Hay ward), the Mayor ot Kadina (Mr A.
