PARLIAMENTARY. Sydney, June 15. ' The Payment of Members Bill was japidlj desposed of last night, the second reading be ing carried by 43 to 21. It was then passed through Committee and reported to the House without amendment. The Land Tax Bill was further considered and various attempts were made to amend the first clause fixing the rate of taxational ^d, by substituting £d, and by increasing the exemptions from JJ500 to £1000, also to limit the duration of the Bill to three years. These 'were all negatived, and the clause carried without alteration. The thii;d reading of the Payment of Members Bill is fixed for next Tuesday.

CORRSSPNDENCE. TO THE EDITOR OV THE 'WESTERN HERALD.' Sir, — Having seen a letter signed James Wilson in your issue of the ISinst., I nish with your per mission to say a few woids anent it. Mr. Wilson begins by stating that Mr. S. R. Wood chairman of the Cobar branch has resigned owing to the glaring inconsistencies of what is put forth as the Union agreement. He then goes on to point out these glaring inconsistences and quotes from the first clause, ' Whereby the said shearer engaget to shear and continuing shearing from day to day until the whole of the sheep depasturing on the run tne property of the said ? are shorn.' Clause ten is also one of hi6 sore spots, and com mences, ' Tiuttin ease he leaves.' Mr. Wilson asks what is the use of a man agreeing to shear from day to day until aU the sheep on a given station are shorn if he reserves the right to break it any time. COMMONS MEETING. After die transaction of Municipal business the Council evolved itself into a Commons meeting for the purpose of considering a motion by Mr. Morri son that the Collector's services be dispensed with, and the Herdsman appointed in his stead. He had no objection -to urge against th; Collector, but {is the financial position of the Commons was not very satisfactory and the work just now was light, he thought the sendees of one man could be dis pensed with. Mr. Hardwick having seconded the motion, it was carried. During the discussion it transpired that the receipts for the past three months had been £49, as against £76 ex pended. Messrs Morrison and Roche stated that they had seen several goats without the proper tablet. The Herdsman could not be attending to Ids duty, or this could not be.
