Additional Majors At Behrend in 1976 New baccalaureate programs will be offered at Behrend College, hopefully beginning in 1976. The Task Force analyses indicates that selected baccalaureate majors can be offered by this campus—a tentative list has been suggested, although changes may occur, but it is reasonable to expect that these majors will be included among those offered by 1976. The programs include majors in Arts and Humanities, Social Behavioral Sciences and Natural Sciences. The student at Behrend College would also have the option to enroll in a contemporary issue emphasis program. Examples of such programs have been suggested—such as Environmental Studies, Science Technology and Society, Individual as Consumer and Citizen, Human Service and the Communication Arts. Majors would include regular course work, individual studies, tutorial services, seminars, workshops and community projects. Hopefully, 12 additional faculty will be appointed by the end of 1973 and a to...

1 Supply Of Blood Required Dr. E: Mastellar has arranged for the Mobile Unit of the Community Blood Bank to visit our college campus. The new $20,000 unit will make its maiden voyage to Behrend and will be parked in the Reed Parking Lot Thursday, March 8, 1973, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year parental permission is not required unless your age is under 18. The blood collected helps both the local community and the campus. If someone at Behrend had need for a transfusion, the blood would be given free because of our participation. In the community, the local hospitals are always in need of a blood supply. Your donation gives many people a new lease on life. It is used for maintaining those with chronic kidney disease on the artificial kidney machine and lor both open and closed heart surgery. It is used for exchange transfusions in newborn babies with an Rh incompatability. It is also used for accident victims and for many routine surgeries. Call Mrs. "K" and make an appointm...

Missed Laughs for Behrend Students Last Saturday night, most oi Behrend College missed a fantastic display of comic genius iii action. This came in the form oi the widely acclaimed comedy groupthe "Portable Circus." Under the direction of George Sherman, who also wrote most of the group's material, the Portable Circus, consisting of Chip Keyes, Mark Williams, Jeff Lippa, and Janet Blake, tore across the stage of Erie Hall for two hourscutting up the cherished American institution of television in quick viniettas of witty, almost brutally comic satire. The time went all too fast. This was, however, another in a long list of disappointments for the Student Union Board, who sponsored the group's appearance at Behrend. Only fortynine people showed up for the single performance, and most of these were not from the campus at .all. As a result, the SUB lost over eleven hundred dollars. But the saddest part of the entire evening was that more people would not share the intense, entire...

Ensemble Exhibits Enthusiastic Show Last Tuesday night the Behrend-Mercyhurst Wind Ensemble gave a concert in the Reed-Student Union Building lecture hall. Those who attended were rocked, Bached, and thoroughly entertained by this joint effort of the Mercyhurst and Behrend bands. Under the direction of both Mr. Davis Giersch, of the Behrend Music Department and Mr. Frank William, the ensemble presented a varied musical program of such contemporary numbers as "Exodus," by Gold and Reed, "Mr. Dixieland Fronts the Band," arranged by Johnny Warrington, "Motown Portrait," arranged by John Cacavas, and a number of others. Although the concert band was rather weak on the classic "Fugue in G Minor" by Bach and Moehlmannthey did a very good job with the extremely difficult piece, "Festivo", by the renowned coir, poser Vaclav Nelhybel. The special treat of the evening came in the guise of the ensemble's Stage Band. The numbers "Just Enough", "Back Home", and "Acropolis 7844" were spic...

REGISTRATION Registration for the Spring term 1973 will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27, and 28, 1973 in the Reed Union Building. Spring Term classes will then commence with the first period class on Thursday, March 29,1973, officially ending with the last period class on Thursday, June 7,1973. Final examinations will then follow on Friday anti Saturday, June 8 and 9. Students should plan to meet with their advisers on the day PRECEDING their actual registration. All students are responsible for setting up a mutually satisfactory time for such a meeting with their adviser prior to leaving for the term break. At this meeting with the adviser, it is hoped that several things might be accomplished: 1. Student should look over the "adjusted" pre-registra_'tion work sheet and not any changes in time or any class closings. At this time the Number 2 Card should be prepared indicating those classes and sections for which the student hopes to enrol I. 2. Student should re...

Forum to Save Presque Isle Saturday, March 10, at one o'clock in Room 104 of . the Zurn Science Center (7th Street between Peach and Sassafras—South side of the street), the St. Thomas Moore Club of Gannon will be presenting a Forum on the preservation of Presque Isle. Over the years, the peninsula has been eroded, and beaches worn away by the currents and rising waters of Lake Erie. In the past, there have been rather superficial measures taken by the federal and state governments to rebuild areas of Presque Isle where it was absolutely necessary. Because these measures have been Childbirth Counseling The Childbirth Education Association of Erie announces that the next series of classes in prepared childbirth will begin on Thursday, March 15. Fraudulent Acts Aired In Consumers Handbook Unsafe products, fraudulent selling and deceptive advertising endanger buyers as much as ever. The time has come for the consumer to speak up for himself against these practices. <5oody Solomon tells whom to go to, and how to approach them, convince them in The Radical Consumer's Handbook, a complete guide to making our voice heard by retailers, manufacturers and legislatures. Here is both a call to citizen consumer action and a recipe for such action. Included are things to look for and avoid as a consumer, step-by-step tactics on complaint action, how to confront business, state and local governments, etc.; lists of groups which cooperate with the White House Office of Consumer Affairs, city consumer offices, state consumer offices—and much more! Congressman Benjamin S. Rosenthalsays: "In a sense The Radical Consumer's Handbook is to the typical book on consumerism what a marriage manual is to a philosophical treatise on...

Letters to the Editor Dear Editor: I personally would like to thank you for the very interesting and factual story that was done on the Behrend Dispensary. We are very aware of our many" short comings and appreciate any interest taken by members of the student body to give suggestions, constructive criticisms, etc. The dispensary was formed as a service to you, the student body, and we would welcome student input at any time. Thank you. Affectionately, Mrs. "K" Dear Editor:. There seems to be some discrepancy between Governor Shapp's intentions and Penn¬ sylvania State University's plans for Behrend College. The problem is the stretching of financial resources. On one hand, the Governor, imminently short of funds isn't raising state educational budgets, which in effect, is cutting the University's available funds. The University, though, plans glorious new baccalaureate programs for Behrend, with majors in Arts and Humanities, Social Behavioral Sciences and Natural Sciences,...

"Diary of an Insane Manager" Looking For A New Place To Play By Dave Lojewski Sports Editor April 10—Dear Diary, "Today I had a-meeting with my captain, Birchie Bump, concerning that we might have to move to another ball field. Birchie heard a rumor that the field that we used for our ball games is going to be turned into a shopping center. What a disaster that will be. We just started Spring training and now we might not have a place to play. "After the meeting I walked over to the old field and I just stood there looking at it and thinking of all the fun we had there. The field is laid out rather strange but it always served its purpose. Left and right field are so long nobody would ever hit a home run right down the lines. Center field, however is so short a routine fly ball may make it over the fence. "The infield was all dirt and really showed the wear and tear of many ballgames. First base was an old rock that nobody could dig out of the ground. Second is a hole and thir...

Four Pin Stops Malone In Bid For A 300 Game Pat Malone, a Behrend College sophomore, recently bowled a 299 game and 735 series at Eastland Bowling Lanes. The feat occured on February 22, while Pat was bowling for Security People's in a Men's League. He started out the night with a 233 and a 203 game just prior to his near perfect score. All that remained in his final game was a stubborn four pin after a string of eleven strikes. Pat stated that "I was so nervous going into that last frame, I didn't know what to expect. My first ball was right in the pocket and my second strike was a Brooklyn carry over. My last ball seemed good but the four pin just wouldn't fall. Even though I didn't get the perfect game, I felt good to just get that far." Pat also stated that just before he shot his last ball the whole place was silent. "That didn't help any either.'' Pat, who is a Liberal Arts major here at Behrend, has a league average of 194. This should be expected since his father is ...

Cub Grappler Season Turns 6-4 at Malone By Renee Heaslip Sports Reporter The Cub grapplers ended a winning season last Thursday February 22, at Malone College in Canton, Ohio. The Malone match was the deciding factor as to whether or not the Cubs have a winning season or end the season with a tie. Their record now is 6-4. The pressure, as always, was on the guys in-the lower weight class. The five regular winners won again with all the matmen chipping in points here and there to win what was their most important match. Exciting is the only word for two of the individual mat matches which were won by Brian Vollant who had a 59 second pin, and Greg Evans who had a 19-8 superior decision. A few of Greg's attempts for near falls resulted in his losing points by escapes and reversals. The score at the end of the first period was 4-2, 11-5 at the end of the second period leading to a final score of 19-8. Well, the season is over and now onto Nationals!!!
