A GOOD BROOD COOP . [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 23 March 1907

A GOOD BROOD COOP . Where one does not employ the Incubator and brooder in the poultry yard but relies upon the old time natural methods of brooding the chicks under hen mothers in improvised brooding coops it is necessary in the event of early-hatched chicks to provide better cooping facilities . During the stormy weather just previous to Easter it is hard to manage the little chicks so that they will not become BROOD COOP . chillod . So fev people keep strict account of all expenses that they do not realize it . It is perfectly natural for hens to lay in the spring . The trouble seems to be , that because everybodys hens are laying and eggs are so plentiful , the price goes down . Now let me put you onto a little secret . The next time eggs are so plentiful , let everyone take their eggs into town , but you stay at home and fix up a nice place to keep your eggs . Put some shallow boxes in the cellar and fill them with clean sand . Place the eggs in—one layer in each box—being careful that they do not touch each other . If any are used for home consumption , be sure that they are the oldest ones . In a couple of weeks a lot of the hens will be broody and others will quit laying for a few days . Eggs will be scarce and the price will be high . Now is your ti...

1 GRANGE 1 [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 23 March 1907

1 GRANGE 1 DENATURED ALCOHOL LAW AMENDMENT PASSED . EFFECTIVE WORK OF THE GRANGE . As announced in our last week s issue , on editorial page , the amendment to the denatured alcohol act , which provides for small farm stills so that farmers can make their own denatured alcohol , passed both the House and Senate , March 1 , was signed by lhe President March 2 , and is now a law , to take effect next September 1 . Thus the work of The Grange , The Ohio Parmer and such other agricultural papers as urged their readers to action on this question , is at last rewarded . The National Grange legislative committee , supported by the influence of the Grange membership and other farmers who were informed and moved to persuasive petition by the agricultural press , did some exceed ingly effective personal work with Congress on this bill , which , without a question , was the only effective influence for it . It is a glorious credit to The Grange , and ought to convince every farmer who is not n...
