_^ £ D ^_ fl | pEClP £ S Bread Talk—Always use the best flour . It is the cheapest in the end , you have good bread , and it goes farther . It U unnecessary to knead your dough often . Once when you make your sponge and when you mold it in loaves for the oven is enough . Should you get dough too stiff grease the board , but do not add more flour . It will be soft and spongy when you put it in the pans . The fresh yeast you get . daily at a penny a cake is the best . Test it and be sure it is fresh . Two cakes of yeast make four loaves of bread , or three loaves and a pan of light rolls . To make light rolls , when you make your dough into loaves for the last time , save a little of the same , pinch a small piece off at a time , work in some butter and sugar , place in pan and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon . Sweet Potato Pie—Take one large sweet potato and grate it fine ; add half cup sugar , yolks of two eggs , keeping whites for meringue ; one teaspoonful of ground cinnamon and ...

FARM FUNNYGRAPHS [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 January 1909

FARM FUNNYGRAPHS A rolling stone gathers no moss , remarked the proverb dispenser . And , like the human high roller , rejoined the thoughtful thinker , it also gravitates down hill . Nellie was five years old and Bobby was three . They were permitted to gather the eggs , but were told not to take the nest eggs . One afternoon they had poor luck and the little girl simply couldn t go in without anything , so she brought a nest egg . Little Bobby toddled behind , saying , Mama , Nellie s dot the egg tbe old hen measures wil . The woman who was doing her marketing was difficult to please . My dear lady , said the exhausted shop-man , with incisive emphasis , if you will kindly step to the telephone a...

The bulk of the corn , of course , ii grown in Illinois and neighboring state : to the west and south . Illinois produces nearly 300 , 000 bushels annually , and Iowa is a close second . Missouri , Nebraska and Texas are credited with 200 , 000 , 0013 bushels each . Then follow Indiana , Kansas , Ohio and Oklahoma with yields ranging from 120 , 000 , 000 to 150 , 000 , 00 ! bushels . The total yield of corn in the United States this year is estimated at 2 , 64...
