Con. elected President of the The breadth of wheat sown in Ohio, last fall, is said to be an in crease of ten and a half per cent oyer last year. It is highly gratifying to note that, during the past month, there has been a decrease in the public debt of $1,825,211. It is hoped the crisis is past, and henceforth the re duction will continue. Con. tide Waite re signed. The election took place yes terday. Cleveland's financial condition is not the best. Her Fire Depart ment has exceeded its receipts $S5, 000 the rast year, the Infirmary Fund was short $18,000, the Street Fund $14,000, the Gas Fund $21,000, the Bridge Fund $41,000, the Police Court Fund $7,500, Police Fund $33,000 in all $219,500. Cleveland will soon be as much in debt as other large cities, if she continues at that rate. ' To reduce the army 5,000, and yet keep it as effective as now, where it is needed, Garfield recommends the withdrawal of the 1,224 troops from New York Harbor and the 4,000 troops kept on the Canada frontier.
