Ditto of owners of wooden bulkl ings-"In the Sweet By and Bye." The work of the week has been not ed for the great number of shingles a few men have taken off other men's houses. What has become of the Board of Trade? Business will very soon re open. An advance move would seem to be in order. Real estate in Monroe has inereased in value Within a short time about 20 per cent-particularly, eligible lots for business houses. The Baptists have kindly consented to have their fine bell to be used in future as the fire-alarm bell of the city. It can be heard three or four miles. We have been hearing less of hard times during the past ten days; and, when we say money is cir...

O ra ch*it* Sopraph. MONROE. LA.. AUGUST at. 1877. During the business season ending on the 1st there were 8,000 bales of cot ton bqught in Monroe. Theshipements amounted to 18,000 bales. The river is dead low, and naviga tion is absolutely suspended. We Iavsi. never seen the Ouachita so low at this season of the year. Boats are nominal. The proceedings of the Board of Trade,, published in the TELbaIAPII last 'week, appear to have met with general approval: We hope the Board of Ti~ade will stand by its pledges. Nearly al the planters we have met report that either. the ctton worm, or the rust, has cut their crops short of what -was promised. two weeks ago, fully" one-half. The corn crop is good and there we end. The Railroad is giving through bills of lading to ,,New 'Orleans at $2 per bale rot cotton. The maximum rate per bale, last year, by the same route was $2'50. Will Major reLen go be yond these figures the present season? Judge Baker, who has been away iunce the latter part o...
