OOODWIN'i W11KLY. 3 H still the prospect of success, under present lights, would lie very small, for ueithqr the .Cleveland Hill nor the Bryan contingent would "enter the campaign with the least enthusiasm, while the Republicans would be jubilant and would press the campaign from the first day. The Democracy needs a Moses as badly today as did the Israelites In Egypt and at tne ase of sna1. Russia is getting ready for war in the Orient, but her great present struggle is to involve China and to complete an alliance with Great Britain, France and Germany. It would be an unnatural alliance, but they all have the same land hunger. It is clear that the statesmen of Russia under stand their business. .They have been seeking to involve China from the. first. ' The last com plaint is that the Chinese army is being trained by Japanese officers. We suspect that is true, but those officers, were employed long before the present war began; the same as Von Moltke, when a young man, was employed ...

GOODWIN'S WBBKLY. H N0T THE BEST WAY. In his remarks at tho opening of the great exposition in St. Louis, Secretary Taft called attention to the fact that in another year tht) loautiful city that had been built that the creat display might be made, would all have passed away, That is a striking example of man himself and his work. We believe that among all those fairy structures at St. Louis, there is one that is to be permanent, to remain for all time. But the rest are all to vanish before an other spring puts on its blooms. They came up, put on their gay apparel, lighted their galleries and domes and pinnacles, made a brave display, only to make the ruin tho more complete when they, a few months hence, will go to the scrap pile. The conclusion will be that save for their Influence in bringing the peoplo together and advertising to the nation and the world the in creasing splendor and power of our republic, they never paid for their creation and the bright gar ments they, for a lit...
