MELBOURNE, June 6. [Newspaper Article] — The Northern Miner — 7 June 1876

MELBOURNE, June 6. Prebendary Moorhouse, vicar of Paddington, London, has been appointed Bishop Perry's   successor. Passengers on board the "Sumatra" are sup- posed to be Fenian agents from England suspected of being implicated in the late escape of Fenian convicts from Western Australia in a whaler. A Coolie has been missing for a week from the settlement at Port Darwrin. He is supposed to have been eaten by the natives. In the Small Debts Court, Millchester, on Saturday, 27th ult., in the case Davis v. Arthur Bailey, a verdict was given to plaintiff for £13 13s. The case had been tried before, and plain- tiff had been non-suited. The Gladstone, on the crown of the hill above Millchester, has been tackled by a party of nine working miners with good prospects of success. The ground has been held by one of the party for the last three months. Operations are now   to be commenced on a vigorous scale. We are glad to announce that the Townsville and Charters T...

WEDNESDAY, JDNE 14, 1670. The J?ort Deniion Timet in its last issuo advocates the formation of a Separation League and .rather inconsistently proposes, tliat if, upon its formation, the Parliament should grant Financial Separation und Local Government then (hat thosevomedial measures Bliould be accepted. It strikes us that, we should strive to obtain the latteirJBrst, and, in the event of failure, then go in heartily for Tentorial Separa tion. Wo grant freely the intolerable evils entailed on the North by its dependancc on a Southern Government, and are most anxious to co-operato in any sclicme promising success which will put an end to our state of serfdom to Brisbane; but we fail to see that an agitation for l'erri toj|jj Separation under present circum stances will lead to a suceestful result.
