£ FIRST AID GLASS FOR TOORfl At the request of the Toorn branch I of the I.0.11., Dr. Barrett at; ended ! tin; lodge meeting on Monday evening for the purpose of formii g a first aid : class. In a short address Dr. Barrett showed hoir necessary it was that everyone should have a knowledge of first aid, and to encourage thum to form a class offered his services weekly free of charge. The mechanics com mittee have also generously granted the lodge room to tlie.I.O.R. for this purpose free on Wednesday evenings for three months. Ten members have already joined the class and an invi tation is to be extended to the A.N. A. and the Progress Association to uiakc up the required number of 25 for the class. A ladiesr class is also to be formed under the auspices of the I.O.K., and any ladies desirous of be coming members are requested to give in their names to Miss Truscott as soon as possible.

Club met at the local hall on Saturday last, 12th inst. for the purpose of holding their annual meeting, a good muster of marksmen being present. The captain (Mr. It. H. Downing) presided. In openijijg the meeting the chair man said they had had a successful year, but were not as successful in the matches as they had hoped for, but they were unfortunate in hav ing the range closed, but the pros spects were that they would have a new range before very long. Two of their members had gone to the war, and he never appreciated being captain so much as on this occasion, when sending two such good men from their ranks to the front: Mr. Fox was one of their best shots and had see active service in South Africa and in India, who he believed was to be honored with a non-com missioned officer's stripe. The Ladies' Patriotic League, formed here recently, were most suc cessful with their sale of gilts, which •.vas held in the local hall on the 4 th alt. The hall was specially decora ted for the occasion, conspicuous among the decorations were the flags of the Allies, namely, England, Rus sia, France and Belgium. The sale ol' gifts commenced at 3 p.m., and Ihe committee had a busy time of it until S o'clock, when the stalls had to bo taken down and the tables cleared away for the evening's en tertainment, which consisted of patriotic music by the district Glee party, and several splendid tableaux with limelight effects. About 10 p.m. the hall was cleared for the patriotic ball, which was well patron ised from all round the district. Af ter supper there was a waltzing con test and about 12 couples competed. Toora Progress Association WATER SCHEME. A meeting of the Toora Progress Association, presided over by Mr James' Allan, was held on Thursday eveuinsr last. Dr Barrett reported that at the request ef the Board of Health he had applied for appointment as public vaccinator. Considerable discussion arose out of the reading of Mr Murray's report ro the water supply, particularly as to the prob able cost of a survey and the means by which money could be found to bear the cost. Mr Murray had mentioned that it would be about £50 for tha survey and approximately £4000 for a gravitation scheme with a i inch service pipe from the Agmes Biver. With a 6 inch pipe water would be available for small irri gation plots and town sewerage. ' Cr.
