That noted woman, Mrs. Helen Barton, the queen of Scottish orators, who has charm- ed crowded audiences in Sydney and suburbs during the last few weeks, will appear in Tamworth in the Central Hall on Thursday and Friday nights next. Mrs. Barton is dis-   tinguished as a member of the parish com-     mittee of the city of Glasgow, and is a muni-   cipal expert, a great force in all civic af-   fairs in that city; as a social reformer in   that great city of Glasgow her labors have been as effective as they have been immense.   Throughout her tour of New South Wales, her meetings have been attended, not only by great crowds, but by men who are au- thorities in all matters social and civic.   Tamworth should not miss this privilege of hearing this distinguished lady.

THE LATE MR. NATHAN COHEN. PARTICULARS OF HIS LIFE. On the 27th of this month the late Mr. Nathan Cohen would have been a resident of Tamworth for 52 years. He arrived when he was 16 years of age and entered the employ of his uncle, the late Mr. William Cohen, who carried on business as a general merchant in Ebsworth street, West Tamworth. On the death of   Mr. William Cohen, Mr. Nathan Cohen managed the business on behalf of the widow. Finally, he started business on his own ac- count as a general commission agent and auctioneer, on the site of premises now oc- cupied by Harvison, chemist. In 1872, Mr. Cohen built the Exchange Buildings, which were subsequently added to and enlarged. In 1875, he took into partnership, Mr. David Nathan, who married the late Abraham Cohen's daughter, Siela. The partnership with Mr. Nathan terminated in 1885, and the late Mr. M. C. PERSONAL. The special prize, awarded bv the judging   committee at the hospital ball, for the Dutch set, was a very popular one. Mrs. R. Gill, Sydney, was a visitor at the hospital ball on Wednesday evening. We are pleased to hear that Mrs. Gill intends coming back at the end of the year to reside on Moonbi station. Mr. Frank Chaffey, who met with an acci-   dent to his knee on the football field in the match against Newcastle, and who has been an inmate of the hospital for the last fort- night, has so far recovered that he was able to-day to leave the institution. Mr. Thomas O'Shea, an old resident of the   district, died at the hospital yesterday, aged 78.
