The Warragul Guardian. THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 1881. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 30 June 1881

TIIhUSDAY, JUNE 30, 1831. THE inglorious scramble for place and pay, which is now occupying the attention of Parliament to the ex elusion of practical legislation, is cer tainly not a source of satisfaction to the country; and the Liberal press throughout the colony has, we are pleased to say, expressed disapproval of the course which Sir Brrs O'LoGLL.ex has thought proper to enter upon. Writers on the subject do not hesitate to accuse Sir-BEnyx of the basest of personal feelings revenge-as the foundation for his action; and really it seems hard to account for his conduct in any other way. It is useless to ask what the Ministry has done to forfeit the con fidence of the country since the Reform Bill was passed, because no thing has since been done. Positively no charge can be made against the Ministry; and we can only stigmatise the effort of Sir Barns and his fol lowers as an unworthy attempt to jump the Treasury benches. We do not pretend to say that the present Ministry is en rap...

Smith and S. Sandliord and Messrs. Cocker ill and Willcox. The weather was all thdt could have been desired, and con sequently there was a very large at tendance, so large indeed that stand ing room could not be found in the building (which is estimated to hold about 200 comfortably) for some 30 or 40 late arrivals, who therefore.had to remain outside the door. The Church presented a very pleasing ap pearance, having been tastefully de corated on the previous evening with ferns and flowers, several members of the committee taking part in the work of adornment. in which they were ably assisted by Mesdames Knott: and Biram, Biss Powell, and Mfessrs. A FOX BATTUE. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 30 June 1881

A FOX BATTUE.. Wore such an incident to happen inl the old country,-England, Ireland, Scotland, or Wale?,-as to organise a muster for the wholesale destruction, and that by gun, of Mr. and Mrs. Reynard and their cubs, the country squire so shocking the sporting pro cliiities of all classes would be uni versally voted "no gentleman." But. here we are at: the antipodes, where everything is inside out--from cherry stones to politics-aud so thlere are 'no remarks called for, re last week's muster of poor "Chtarley's" enemniee at Avalon, other than to relate the (melancholy) facts. It having been found that the Reynard family had so. increased on the estate that ducks would be non est when the green peas. season approached, and that weakly lambs might be preyed upon in their, infancy, instead of living until mint; sauce was duly ready for them, Mr. W H. .Ballivant (who is one of those. ever genial hosts never before known; /oltile to man or beast) organised a. party of shootists last wee...
