Heard and Co, the first thing that strikes us is tbe omission of all notice of 'firing' — an eril much dreaded by planters in Virginia. Should exceedingly brightweaflier occur just as the leaf if ripening, spots ofa peculiar character appear {not those which indicate ripeness). ?»« ™o crop is said to Oe 'fired.' This sometimes also occurs whilst the tobacco is in tbe shed, when too much fire heat is applied to it. Haste in drying, then, both before and after the sweating, is to be avoided; the process must be steady and gradual, and there is no doubt that our hot winds will have to be guarded against.
