Another Mutiny Feared. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 9 May 1894

Another Mutiny Feared. The SPECTATOR fears that the mysterious marking of mango trees at Behar, in north-west India, a circumstance which is puzzling the Indian Government, is really a secret sign addressed to the natives, and means "wait, or be ready for a   mutiny." The paper points out that May is the anniversary of the Indian mutiny, and that the marking of the trees coincides   with the secret distribution of un- leavened cakes (chupatis), which took place prior to the outbreak of the mutiny in May, 1857. LONDON, Monday. The Gale Comet. THE comet discovered by Walter Gale, of Sydney, has been seen in London, moving north-east.

The lawn tennis clab will commence work1 next week, with every prospect of a successfalsedson. Football and tennis are both excellent games, but there is also the prospect of or.e equally good, both from a players' and spectators' point of view, being introduced in Dubbo during the coming winter, as i some members of the Half-holiday Association are cocsidering the ad visableness of forming a Lacrosse club. This game is steadily in creasing in popularity in the metro polis, and it has so much to recom mend it as an athletic sport that it is strange it has been so long in coming into favour. THE ANTIQUITY OF MAN. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 12 May 1894

TIIE ANTIQUITY OF MAN. From the fact that some human bone* were found a few yean ago, in lacustrine deposits in Florida, it ia thought by mauy scientists that nutn is 30,000 years old. In modern times, we certainly hare deteriorated, liven scripture derides the idea of putting " new wine into old bottles." What would the ancient* think of men who would, lor the sake of trifling gain, put vile poison into genuine Wolfe's Schnapps bottles and sell it for the original liquor 1 It is better to buy whole bottles for yourself and when empty break them.

THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND MACQUARIE ADVOCATE. Saturday, May 12, 1894. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 12 May 1894

THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND JMACQUARIE ADYOCATE. Saturday May U, 1M04. The speech delivered by the ex-Premier at St. Leonards on Tuesday night was a severe but just criticisai of the Listory of the present Legislative Assem bly, and in view of the approach ing geaeral election will be read with interest. Sir Henry Partes considers the present political situation unique, having | no parallel in the records of any other English speaking com munity. We have had a new Electoral Act on our statute book for 13 months, and Sir Henry's statement is incontrover tible that the mere passing of that law was a condemnation of the existence of Parliament, The admitted need of reform in the method of electing representa tives was also an admission that the Parliament as elected did not justly represent the electors, and therefore as a natural corollary the life of the old Par liamentshould have at once ended, and a new House have been elec ted by means of the alleged more equitable amended Act Unfor tun...
