On Monday last steam was got up in the new boiler, the first lot of stone was run down from the mine on the new tram line, and the battery was riv«n a nn-. liminary irial run. Some Sydney gentle men were present at the trial, and are very pleased with the result so far. On Friday last a great and enthusiastic send-off by invitation, at Mr. Pat Oakes's, at Crudine, prior to the departure for the front of two young heros— Messrs. Rilly Lowe and Tom Parlett. After the usual preliminaries dancing was introduced to the music of the accordian, skillfully manipu lated by Messrs. Oakes, Honeysett, and Roy O'Brien. About 40 couples took part in the light fantastic, and each and every one of them went into the spirit of the oc casion. Concert at the Lithgow Camp. Under the auspics of the Recruiting As sociation, a realy good concert was held in the Drill Hall on Wednesday night last. A large audience was present and everything went off like clockwork, and no wonder, when the whole arrangements were in the handB of Messrs. E. Bracey, V.Madell, and G. Rottton, assisted by the military officers. The chief artists were Mr. J. Hartley District 8-Hour Committee The usual weekly meeting of the. above was held on Thursday night. The follow ing were present:-— -Mr. J. Dixon (in the chair), Messrs. Delahunty, Holding, Thomas, Cullen, W, Jones', Dunn, Brooks, Wallace, Summons, Collins, O'Reilly, Steele, Mc Ke'th, Carroll,. R.' T. Grant, Stalker, and Field. Apologies were received from Messrs. J. Welcome Home to Soldiers. On Tuesday night last there was a fair attendance to welcome home two of our re turned soldiers, Privates Watt and Vaughan. The function took place at Kelly's Commer cial Hotel. Military officers present in cluded Captain Eade, Lieuts. Lindsay and Donald. Warrant Officer Boulton, and Sergt. Major Messenger. Mr. A. Ereritt occupied the chair. Apologies were received for the absence of Mr. J. Ryan and Mr. W. 'Evans. Mr. R. Northey in proposing the toast of the returned soldiers, said that he had known one of them since' boyhood, and waa proud to see that he responded to his coun try's call when he was needed. He would liked to have gone to the front himself, but thy would not take him. While Kreetin* the returned soldiers we must not forget those brave lads who had given their life.
