San Diego. and 1 Santa Brllara counties large tqulutities of walnutl are tgrown for the Eastern market. The plan alopted in growing the trees in I.os Angeles is as fllows: The gronod is ploughed deep, harrowed alI levelled. A trench three or four inches dleep is then oploughed, the walnuts diropped labut a foot and a half apart and then covered. The soil is lharrowed and the nuts left to sprout. After.the yourn trees appear they should Ile kept from weeds, but not irrigated often. Too much, rather than too little water is apt to kill the trees. W\hen the trees are two years ohl they are transplanted anldl set in rwell-ploughed lanl. The trees must be set at least thirty feet apart. Irrigate onlr olnce or twice a year.
