Stray Notes. Whilst engaged digging out rabbits on Iiis farm Thomas Hanrahan, of. Cobram, was bitten on the hand by a snake. Ligatures were applied to the arm, and the bitten part lacerated, j Hanraliran was then taken to Br. Kennedy, and is now ont of danger. In the Supreme Court at Invcrear gill (N.Z.) Alice Urwin was awarded £750 damages against her cousin, Cutlibert Urwin, of Melbourne, for breach of promise. The defendant admitted the breach, saying that he had been keeping company with another young woman. The Full Court, with Mr. Justice Hodges dissenting, quashed the con viction of Sol. Green, who was fined £30 for using a private box at fhe post office for betting. The. decision was made on the ground that the box was not a ' place' within the meaning of the Gaming Act. Leslie Hill, about 18 years of age, escaped from the Shepparton gaol last Sunday afternoon. Pakenham Court. At tlio last sitting o£ the Pakenham Court A. J. Gibb, butcher, of Buuyip, proceeded against C. Lowan for the rcoovpvv 0f fjl'2/1//, and a verdict was giviu tor the amount claimed, with L'2/9/* costs. The same complainant also proceeded against T. Joues for L1/1G/4-, and secured a verdict for the amount with '25/- costs. Q. Dunn proceeded against J. Oowell for the rocovcry of L7/16/, and a verdict for ilie amount was given, with L2/5/. costs. The latter claim was for the rent of a house. The Berwick Shire Council sued a large number of ratepayers for the recovery of rates, and Mr. Home (Home and Wilkinson) appeared for the council. DISTRICT DOINGS. DROUIN. The licence of the Railway Hotel has been transferred from A. Hunt to W. M. Reilly. At a meeting of the Drouin Cricket Club Mr. W. Reilly was elected president, and Mr. C. Parry secretary and treasurer. The club will again enter the West Gippslatid Associa tion's competition. ! The remains of the iatc Mr. Ninian I Hardie were followed to the Drouin I cemetery by a large number of friends I and relatives. The Rev. A. Goodall conducted the service at the grave. In recognition of Mr. S; Toilcy's assistance to the Drouin Football Club during the past season, the members decided to present liim with an enlarged group of the playerB. This was hauded to him a few days ago by Mr. D. P. Casey. The death has occurred of Mrs. Taylor, wife of Mr. Walter Taylor. Deceased, who had been au invalid for some years, was 78 at the time of her demise. She was u, resident ol Drouin district for over 30 years.
