Australians at the Pyramids. Writing to his brother at Woorarra Mr Norman Ridgway, who is a mem- ber of the Machine Gun Section of the Expeditionary Force, gives some in- teresting details of the sights in Egypt, from which the following are extracted :— "There are some very interesting places in this ancient country and one is kept going sight-seeing when he is on leave, but there is no hope in life of seeing everything. We are camped right at the foot of the prehistoric Pyramids. They are a mystery still unsolved. Even in these days they could not build pyramids like them. One is over 400 feet high and built of stone blocks, each weighing several tons, some of them being 16 feet long and 10 feet high. The greatest marvel is—Where did they get the stones ? There is nothing but sand for miles   around. Some ancient cities are being unearthed near the Pyramids, reveal- ing mystery after mystery, but not solving them. TO THE EDITOR.   Sir, There is some excitement at War- atah Bay in the gold mining business, but the prospect so far does not warrant any rush as the gold that is being got is very light and flaky. It has been known locally for the past 30 years that there is gold on the beach. The late Mr Warner, father of Mr. Wm. and G. Warner, of Toora, worked the beach 30 years ago and he certainly made it pay and since there have been several parties prospecting, but have never found anything payable. There was an hydraulic sluicing plant working for several months near Bell Point about 1 1/2 miles from Waratah township but did not got enough gold to pay for the carting of the plant from lnverloch as Jas. Dewar, of Waratah, can testify, he having done the carting. There is some talk of a copper or nickel lode being found which may turn out a profitable venture, but there are doubts about the treatment of it being done in Australia.
