TIPS FOR THE A. J. C. [Newspaper Article] — Referee — 7 April 1887

TIPS FOR THE A.J.C. (Bv ' Eaely Died.') . My conjectures to-day only embrace Saturday's events, as it would not bo judi cious on my part to hazard predictions for Cup Day, which take' place on Monday UUU, 'J J. ..Ill tunity of watching the running on St. Leger Day. Consequently the readers of the Referee who tako an interest in horse racing will be supplied with the fullest information in my powor'innext Sunday's isauo of thb Sunday Times, whenl hope to eclipse all previous records and be the happy medium of presenting them with an Easter Gift worthy of their ac ceptance, in tho shape of spotting all the winners. The meeting will open at . Randwick with the HURDLE RACE, in which Mr. Scarr has placed Balmoral at the head of the list with 13st. 5lb., an impost which I imagine his owner will not look kindly on, and I shall bo surprised if the gallant son of Winchelsea — Black Bess should seo the post. Coloola, with Dlb. less, is asked to carry quite as much as he is capable of doing, b...

LOOKING BACK. (By ' Eaklt Biiid.') THE HAWKESBURY AUTUMN MEETING. Fikst Day. J. lie sixty-second race meeting hold in the Hawkesbury district lias been num bered with the three-score and one o£ his predecessors. Old time has left his mark on what in the early days boasted of being the principal out-station of Australia, and to-day the historic townships of Windsor and Richmond present a -weatherworn ap pearance. rsut tor all tuat the district anu surrounding liills could scarcely have pre sented a more pleasing aspect, while the herbage and foliage were quite as abun dant and prolific as it is conceivable to imagine, and those who journeyed to the gathering merely for tho sake of the outing must have returned with grand impres sions of the country districts of Now South 'Wales. It was only natural that the earth should have returned such a compliment, as the recent abundance of rain, coupled with the warm rays of Old Sol, could not possibly have refused a good return to nature for h...
